ALUMNI
BANQUET
AUGUST 12, 2006
The
Oakland Alumni Association held their annual meeting recently
at John Martin's Manor in Waterville. Two hundred and fifty members
and friends attended the social hour, buffet and business meeting.
Dana Wrigley opened the meeting, Selma Pulcifur gave the invocation
and Dwight Taylor led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Betty
Lewis Pellerin was the hostess and Madeline Boudreau ran the 50/50
raffle, which was won by Ronald Tilton. Dwight Taylor from the
class of 1929 was the oldest member present. Alice Wrigley and
Beverly Wrigley handled the tickets and registration.
The
classes of 1956, 1951 and 1946 were celebrating anniversaries
and were well represented. Two former teachers, Artie Clark and
Helen Gallagher, were present. Alfred and Barbara Wheeler, longtime
supporters of the association, were unable to attend this year,
as was former Principal Maxwell Ward. Past officers in attendance
were Julia Brown, Hobie Pierce, Hilda Bickford, Francis Monahan,
Madeline Boudreau, Elaine Burton, Linda and Dan GRady and Grace
Labonte.
The
annual Eagle award was presented to Ralph Farnham, Jr., class
of 1956. He has retired from National Cash Register Co. after
35 years. He has served 28 years on the Oakland Town Council,
many as chairman. He has represented the town on the Kennebec
County Budget Committee for nine years, member of MMA legislative
committee, State of Maine Communications Policy Committee and
chaired the committees to replace the Veterans Memorial and the
Fireman's Memorial, as well as the library expansion committee.
The
annual Barbara Marston door prize was won by Sheldon Thomas. Linda
Grady presented a history of Edith, Grace and Helen, the three
Lord sisters. Officers elected for 2007 were Dana Wrigley, president;
Alice Wrigley, vice president; Fran King, secretary; and Alan
Charles, treasurer. Loraine Morton Jones gave the benediction.
The next meeting will be held Aug. 11, 2007, at John Martin's
Manor.
