BANQUET
August 11, 2007
The Oakland
Alumni Association held their annual banquet at John Martin’s
Manor on August 11 with 226 alumni and guests present. The Oakland
Alumni Association was established in 1920 for the Oakland High
School and now includes alumni of Williams High School and Messalonskee
High School.
The
oldest attendee was Dwight Taylor from the Williams High
School class of 1929 and the youngest was Shawntyl Miller from
the class of 2004 at Messalonskee. Dwight enjoyed being “Roasted”
by Linda Grady who made a humorous presentation with pictures
of him at the time of his graduation from Williams High School
and as he looks today. The Class of 1957 had 32 in attendance
to help celebrate their 50th Reunion. The “Response”
from the Class of ’57 was given by the President of the
class, Dick Hallee.
Leatrice Grevois won the Barbara Marston Door Prize and Don Farnham
won the 50/50 drawing. Retired teachers, Arthur Clark, Helen Gallagher,
and Althea Jewett, were guests at the luncheon.
The Eagle award which
is presented annually to someone who has performed outstanding
service to their community was presented to Charles Pullen from
the class of 1959 at Williams High. After graduation Charles served
in the U.S. Army and then worked at Pullen Ford for many years.
Charles joined the Oakland Fire Department while he was in high
school and recently retired after 25 years as its Fire Chief.
Alumni officers for 2008 are Dana Wrigley President, Alice Wrigley
V. President, Fran King Secretary, and Allen Charles Treasurer.
The 2008 banquet will
be held at the Waterville Elks Club on August 9. 2008.
