BANQUET
August 9, 2008
The
Oakland Alumni Association held their annual banquet August 9th
,2008, with 230 alumni and guests present. The Oakland Alumni
Association was established in 1920 and includes alumni from Oakland
High School, Williams High School and Messalonskee High School.
Dana Wrigley, President, served as Master of Ceremonies, and welcomed
the Alumni and guests.
The class
of 1958 had 18 in attendance to celebrate their 50th reunion.
The “Response” from the Class of ’58 was given
by Anna Higgins Barnes.
Mr. Arthur
Clark, a former teacher and football coach at Williams High School,
was recognized by Linda Grady. She spoke about his teaching and
coaching career at Williams High School and his many accomplishments
of hiking and biking across country several times. She also mentioned
his talent as an accomplished wood carver.
The Eagle
Award, which is presented each year to someone who has performed
outstanding service to their community. The award this year was
presented to Lucille Wooley Smith, Class 1958 of Mesa, Arizona.
She received this award for her many years of helping the elderly
with medical support. Lucille read a poem that she had written
for the class reunion.
Paul
Fisher, class of 1959 won the “Barbara Marston” door
prize of $100.
The officers
for 2009 are Dana Wrigley, President, Selma Pulcifur, Vice Pres.,
Alan Charles, Treasurer, and Fran King, Secretary.
The 2009 banquet will
be held August 8th at the Elks Club in Waterville, Me.
