Fire Prevention Week 1999
October 3rd thru 9th.

Daryll Fotter will be going into the school at various times during that week for safety training.

Programs
Free woodstove installation inspection.
Free chimney cleanliness inspection.
Free smoke detectors for anyone who cannot afford one. We will install it in your home if you need us to.

About The Fire Department
Oakland has a volunteer fire department with 24 volunteers and 1 full time member, Chief Charles Pullen. Our rescue unit responds to approximately 350 rescue calls and 125 fires per year.

All outdoor burning with the exception of cooking fires require a permit. You can get your permit at the Fire Station or A.L. Taylor & Son on Heath Street.

Fall is here and we would like to remind everyone to change the battery in your smoke detector when you change your clocks.

Leaf Cleanup:
We would like to encourage everyone to take their yard waste to the transfer station, where it be converted to mulch, instead of burning. You will help the enviroment by not burning, and the mulch will be available in the spring at no cost.
